Gil J Wolman

Wolman

Born in 1929 in Paris.
Died in 1995 in Paris.

At the age of twenty, he separated the vowels from the consonants and thus created "Mégapneumie".
In 1951, he made "Anticoncept", a film without images, projected on a sounding balloon, today in the collections of the Musée National d'Art Moderne. In 1952, he founded the Internationale Lettriste with Guy Debord. Until 1957, he took an active part in the Lettrist movement. In 1956, he represented the Lettrist International at the Alba Congress, which laid the foundations of the future Internationale Situationniste. From 1957, he developed his personal work, away from all schools. In 1963, he invented Art Scotch, a process that consists of tearing off strips of prints using an adhesive tape that he repositions on canvas or wood. Will succeed among others: “Separations” in 1978, “dürhing dürhing” and the “Decompositions” in 1979. The “Peinture dépeinte” occupies the last part of his work from 1991. This time it is a question of separating the canvas from his subject.
